7 Days of the Week in Chinese
In Chinese, the days of the week follow a beautifully simple pattern. The week starts with Monday, and each day is built using just two key words: 星期 (xīngqī), meaning "week," and a number from 1 to 6. Sunday is the only exception — instead of a number, it uses 日 (rì) or 天 (tiān), meaning "sun" or "day".
Monday
星期一 (xīngqī yī)
Tuesday
星期二 (xīngqī èr)
Wednesday
星期三 (xīngqī sān)
Thursday
星期四 (xīngqī sì)
Friday
星期五 (xīngqī wǔ)
Saturday
星期六 (xīngqī liù)
Sunday
星期日 (xīngqī rì) or 星期天 (xīngqī tiān)
Why Is It So Easy?
Unlike English, where you have to memorize seven completely different names (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...), Chinese just counts! Once you know the numbers 1–6, you already know most of the week.
